Ecommerce – Collecting money online for a product or service.
There are some essential elements that must be in place for an ecommerce site to be created and maintained with the proper security measures in place. One is called an SSL or “secure socket layer” certificate. This certificate ensures all data is encrypted so that hackers cannot view credit card numbers.
Shopping Cart – Software program that allows customers to view products and product descriptions, calculate taxes and shipping, and make purchases.
Most ecommerce sites have a shopping cart, which must have an SSL in place. Credit card information should NEVER be stored within the cart itself, thus preventing hackers from gaining access to this sensitive information.
