Rules of the Rave for Bigger and Better Website Marketing in 30 Days
Right now we’re reading World Wide Rave by David Meerman Scott about harnessing the power of social media. The tagline reads, “Creating triggers that get millions of people to spread your ideas and share your stories.”
According to Scott, the basic “Rules of the Rave” to remember look something like this when it comes to using social media for website marketing:
1) Nobody cares about your products (except you). Don’t talk about what you have to offer. Focus on the needs of the people you’re trying to reach.
2) No coercion necessary. If yours is content that people find interesting and valuable, they’re going to WANT to share it.
3) Lose control. Instead of trying to set limits on how your content is viewed, make it free for anyone to download, be it an ebook or a song download. Then you’re allowing these tools to build a following for your product or service which, in turn, builds a pool of prospects now more open to buying something from someone who has proven they have valuable content to share.
4) Put down roots. If you want to be accepted into the social media community, you need to spend time there. Prove you’re there to engage, not just promote your business. Get to know them as people, not just prospects.
5) Create triggers that encourage people to share. Come up with something innovative that solves a problem and/or is “very valuable, interesting, funny, or just plain outrageous.”
6) Point the world to your (virtual) doorstep. Its SEO potential is one of the most valuable reasons for incorporating social media into your website marketing campaign. The more you incorporate keyword terms into your social media profiles and updates, the more you’ll be included in search engine listings, as Google and Bing both include tweets, for example, in their search results.
